8 Most Overrated Movies of the Last Decade

8. Foxcatcher (2013)

The main reason the movie has gotten such good reviews and lots award nominations is the acting, especially Carrel stepping off his comfort zone to deliver the role of his lifetime. And rightfully so because the acting is indeed spectacular. The plot on the other hand lacks clarity and the movie just gets confusing and slow paced.

7. Moneyball (2011)

You have to do something very special to make a movie about baseball interesting, because, you know, it’s baseball. And this movie just doesn’t. It fails to do what it is meant to do, which is inspire you. There are many good aspects about this movie, the plot is promising but it gets caught up in Beane’s past and personal drama.

6. Taken (2008)

Sure the editing is nice, and sure the special effects are too. What else is good? The acting, besides Liam Neeson, is amateurish and the script is extremely basic and shallow that an eight year old could have written it.

5. Gravity (2013)

It has become a cliché nowadays that if you have a basic plot, two top name actors and a lot of money to invest in special effects you get a top notch movie for the whole family. And the trailer gives away the premise of the movie and the book can be judged by its cover here.

4. The Blind Side (2009)

What were they thinking when they made this movie? Let’s make a fairy tale about a black boy being accepted in a white suburban home and lets add some pseudo inspirational sports plot so everybody can enjoy it? This movie being considered as one of the 10 best movies of that year is just a shame for the Academy.

3. The Tree of Life (2011)

It is too tiring, too experimental and too boring. The images are fascinating and so is the concept but it lacks clarity. The scenes mostly have no connection to each other and that makes it hard for the audience to focus and understand what is going on. Yes, we get it, it looks artsy and it imposes you to not speak bad about it.

2. The King's Speech (2010)

It just sets the bar lower than it already has gotten. The movie is basically only the Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush scenes, due to their amazing chemistry. They are a joy to watch. When they are not in the same scene, the movie just gets boring and almost unbearable. The movie’s purpose of uplifting you vanishes quickly as it becomes too comical and predictable.

1. The Hurt Locker (2009)

'Apocalypse Now' (1979), 'Born On The Fourth Of July' (1989), 'Full Metal Jacket' (1987), 'Saving Private Ryan' (1998) are all war movies that run circles around 'The Hurt Locker' in every imaginable way. From the cinematography to the directing to the screenplay and even star power. Somehow, the Academy neglected them and they never got the recognition they deserved. Thankfully that time did them justice and that they are now being showered with nothing but praise in retrospect. No ofense for it, but 'The Hurt Locker' is very underrated.
